Quantitative Research Design
The goal of quantitative research is to measure phenomena, such as attitudes towards public policy or indicators that show the impact of a program, in an unbiased manner so that the findings can be generalized to a larger population. To execute such research, it is necessary to design a sample that is representative of the larger population targeted for measurement. These might be general population samples for nationally representative studies, or samples of the beneficiary population for a program or intervention.

Qualitative research is used when the objective is to gather a depth of data, to understand the Why? and How? Where quantitative research tends to focus on the what? When? and by Who? Qualitative research provides an opportunity to target either the general population or a specific audience and to understand what is behind an opinion, behavior or decision, and the barriers they face in carrying out certain behaviors.
